Hi All, I received a few good questions after the A.G.M. recently regarding the A.B.A. / basejump.org website. Here are the answers. It all started back in 1998 when I first became involved with jumping. At the time, Greg Wilcock had a website up and running and had started the A.B.A. Shortly after this Greg moved to England and the site disapeared. I became interested in it and resurected it. It has developed over the years and has been a valuable tool for people interested in the sport from all over the world. Whilst I have maintained it over the years as a labour of love the A.B.A. logo holds pride of place only as long as the reigning A.B.A. committee sees fit. As I stated at the A.G.M., and earlier elsewhere on this site, there is room for at least another three Australian websites on B.A.S.E. jumping. This website's priority is in enhancing safety within the sport. Whether or not it has the blessing of the A.B.A. I believe the official website could be elected at A.G.M.s in the same way committee members are. However, official 'blessings' mean little when it comes to websites. The B.A.S.E. Zone at Dropzone.com is a good example of this as it gets a lot of use but, is not directly linked to any particular group or area. All outgoings for this site have been met through merchandise sales and from my own pocket. (Message edited by admin on May 15, 2005) |
